Overtime, game 3 of the AHL Calder Cup Finals between the Toronto Marlies and the Norfolk Admirals. Why does this matter you ask? Well this game was won by a definitive fluke goal. With the game tied in sudden death OT, Norfolk defenseman Mike Kosta dumped the puck into Toronto's zone. Toronto goaltender Ben Scrivens went behind the net to play the puck as it went around the boards. The problem was the puck had a different idea in mind. What I can only describe as Space Jam like, the puck takes an awkward bounce of the boards and ricocheted into the empty net giving the Admirals a 1-0 win.
Equally epic was the outstanding quote given by Toronto Marlies head coach Dallas Eakins on what he felt after losing the game on the ridiculous goal. Eakins was quoted as saying, "I would rather somebody take a pair of steel toed boots and kick me in the delicate region than to lose a hockey game like that. That is a tough way to lose."
Since I referenced Space Jam here is the scene I'm talking about.
